A woman who supplied a mobile phone to an inmate at Highpoint Prison while she was working there has avoided being locked up. Bryony Hiscox, 34, of Brockesby Walk, Bury St Edmunds, formed an ‘inappropriate relationship’ with the prisoner, Ipswich Crown Court heard yesterday (Wednesday). Hiscox was employed by the Rehabilitation for Addicted Prisoners Trust and involved in one-to-one and group therapy sessions at the prison at Stradishall, said Edward Renvoize,

prosecuting. Her involvement came to light in July 2014 when letters written by Hiscox together with a mobile phone and a SIM card were found in the cell of a man who had been moved to an open prison.

When questioned, Hiscox admitted having brought the phone into the prison, the court heard. Checks revealed that Hiscox told the prisoner to write to her using a false name at an address in Croydon to avoid detection and between May 2015 and June 2015 they were in contact by text and phone on 65 occasions. Hiscox, who pleaded guilty to misconduct in a public office, was sentenced by Judge John Devaux to 10 months imprisonment suspended for 12 months and ordered to pay £800 towards the cost of the prosecution.
